A rare Glen Ord bottling, this 38-year-old whisky from The Singleton distillery has been made using double-maturation, with this style of ageing being the first of its kind for the distillery.
In the pursuit of exceptional flavour, Maureen Robinson, The Singleton’s Malt Master, matured the liquid initially in American oak barrels for 12 years, before being moved over to a selection of bourbon, Pedro Ximénez sherry, Oloroso sherry and new oak casks for a particularly long second maturation – the longest in The Singleton’s history in 26 years! Created to be shared and enjoyed, the Glen Ord 38 Year Old was bottled at 49.6% abv.
The nose is mellow, sweet and fruity, with aromas of red apple, pineapple and candied citrus fruits. Full-bodied, the palate is creamy and vibrant, kicking off with sweet notes of fudge before moving into a spicier and fruitier profile. Baked Apples and vanilla ice cream are rounded off with a dash of autumnal and warm peppery spice. The finish is very long, with a sweet warmth and ginger spice lingering in the aftertaste.
